Hi,

I am looking for a programmer that must work helping to migrate a
classic Omnis7 applicattion to Studio 4.3. No SQL all data access is
DML. This is a work in progress but I need a programmer that can
help me to shorten this migration , because I have not enough time to
finish this migration in time. Looking for an Omnis programmer is not
easy and impossible in Spain, so which are the best suited
programming language knowledge I must require to this programmer to
start fast in Omnis Studio programming. I don't want to spend much
time teaching this programmer so which popular programming language
has more analogies with Omnis Studio ?

regards

Xavier, why don't you send an email to Alain Teboul from Omnis France (***@tigerlogic.com
) or the Italian rep Andrea Guidi (***@softpi.it)

Maybe they know spanish developers, I know there should be several...

Fred

Hi Fred,

I am programming with Omnis since 1988 (omnis3+). I know very well
the Omnis market in Spain. I know more or less who works with Omnis
in Spain and will be a difficult task to find an Omnis programmer in
my area. Because this work can have continuity in my company I prefer
to select a young person that lives in my area and could remain in
the company after this work.
So the question is, which popular programming language knowledge will
easy learning Omnis ? Java ? Visual Basic ? ... ?

I think any young wizz-kid could do this... problem is that Omnis does
not have a 'flashy' image... you'll have to take care he stays happy,
can contactfellow developers, he'll surely love iOS and other mobile
stuff. Make sure he can play around as well as work... young minds
often are more flexible than the old geezer ones...

Take a look on this list, quite a few youngsters here. Maybe nice to
hear something from them personally... why did they choose Omnis, or
did somebody else choose for them?

Speak up...

I've hired two developers straight out of college and taught them Omnis to varying degrees. The language isn't that hard for them. They actually struggle more with the IDE than anything else. As long as you explain that "yes, the method editor is quirky and unlike anything you've ever used..." then I believe anyone that's a decent programmer should be able to get up and running with Omnis.

As a caveat, you said this was to port an Omnis 7 app to Studio. I've only ever tried to teach Studio, and I've only ever programmed Studio, though I've seen Omnis 7 code. Teaching someone procedural Omnis 7 might be a little harder...
